It's time for the Church of England to lay down the law on marriage

Wednesday’s vote in Synod was not a victory for the LGBT lobby. In whatever way that vote in synod is spun, the real issue is not about same-sex marriage but about the authority of the Bible in the Church of England.

The effect of the vote is that there is no change in doctrine or practice. Marriage remains, as it has for all Christendom, a lifelong union between a man and a woman.

This moment presents a great opportunity for the House of Bishops to embrace that truth and to act to uphold it firmly within the Church, disciplining those who would seek to abandon the authority of the Bible, and whose actions will eventually bring down the Church by actively denying that truth.

The Bishops’ Report on Marriage and Same Sex Relationships was in danger of weakening the Church’s teaching. It sought to hold together two positions that are irreconcilable – the orthodox position holding to the teaching of Jesus Christ, and the alternative which seeks to revise his teaching by insisting on acceptance of same-sex marriage.

People in society expect the Church to believe and teach the Bible. What other authority can the Church have?
Moreover, God’s people are called to be “set apart” and clergy are supposed to be examples to their people. Today, however, a crucial faultline has opened up in the Church of England because it has permitted those who openly defy the teaching of Jesus into positions of authority and influence. Male clergy who declare to Synod their “marriages” to other men are applauded, despite the fact that this is directly contrary to the Church’s own teaching.

The Bishop of Liverpool, an active LGBT campaigner, took to the floor of Synod this week and pleaded with members tacitly to back the report by voting to “take note” of its findings, because the language within it affirmed homosexual relationships. “Our explanation of maximum freedom will take us to places where we have not previously gone,” the bishop said, clearly indicating the direction of travel he intended to take. Such a position runs directly contrary to the teachings of the Church. Yet the Bishop is not even reprimanded.

CONDITIONS FOR REVIVAL

SCRIPTURE: Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. (James 4:10)

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: If you want to succeed with God, you must surrender your sense of prosperity, dignity and authority.

 

It is the Will of God for the world to experience the massive move of God. In Joel 2:25-28, God promised a revival that will happen at the end of time. God will cause a re-awakening in the church that will turn the hearts of people to Him before the end of the age.

 

It is important to know, however, that despite God’s promise of revival, there are conditions to meet. God does not just move while men are only folding their hands.

What, therefore, are some conditions for revival?

 

1.Soberness:

There must be soberness in order to see the move of God. We must be sober before God and seek His Face in order to see His move. When men move towards God at the place of prayer, God is set to move in a mighty outburst of the Spirit.

 

2.Total Surrender:

A total surrender to God is another condition for revival. When Moses encountered God at the burning bush, the three things he surrendered were his flock, his shoe and his rod which represents prosperity, dignity and authority respectively.

 

Beloved, if you want to succeed with God, you must surrender your sense of prosperity, dignity and authority totally to Him.

 

Let us trust God to see His move in our generation.

OVER-BUSYNESS - AN ENEMY OF THE ANOINTING

SCRIPTURE: And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. Luke 10:41-42.

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The Anointing of the Holy Spirit cannot settle in a life that is too busy and full of diverse activities.

 

God delights in man having a steady relationship with Him above every other thing in life. However, many Christians are busy working for the LORD while the LORD of the work is abandoned as was the case with Martha in our anchor scripture today. They are too busy for God; their lives, hearts and minds are too noisy, disorganized, disorderly and full of diverse activities. Many things struggle for their attention, concentration and focus. It might be a business or other kinds of pursuit. In fact, they live lives that are permanently distracted.

 

Beloved, the anointing of the Holy Spirit cannot settle in a life that is too busy and full of activities. A life with so many competing priorities and focuses is not conducive for the habitation and operation of the Spirit of God.

 

When a man is encumbered with the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches and the pursuit of other things, it is impossible for the anointing of the Holy Ghost to settle on his life.

 

Beloved, I counsel you to concentrate your energy on your relationship with God and from the strength of that relationship, you will be catapulted to affect your generation. To be too busy for God is to be too busy for your good.

 

Remember this: The Anointing of the Holy Spirit cannot settle in a life that is too busy and full of diverse activities.

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

1.Decongest your life from anything that makes you too busy to have a quiet time with God.

2.Jealously guard your prayer and Bible Study life.

That you have a ball does not mean you should play it wherever you like and the way you like. Balls may have the same name and shape but they are not played at the same place with same laws. Each ball has its place and audience. If you have a football, please look for a field. If you have a basketball, look for a basketball court. If you have a tennis ball, look for a table. If you have a lawn tennis ball, look for a lawn tennis court etc.
You can use your legs to play football but not basketball, just as you can use your hands to play basketball but not football.

Same is true in business, ministry, academics, marriage and personal relationships.

Define what you are holding, understand the rules governing it's use; locate the place it can be used, know for whom it can be used while not forgetting to back it up with prayers.

GUARD YOUR HEART

SCRIPTURE: Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When your flesh rules your life, your future is not guaranteed.

 

Our anchor scripture makes it clear that the inability or ability to control what goes into one's mind will determine what flows out of one’s life and destiny. This is why it is very important to guard one’s heart with all diligence.

 

To keep your heart with all diligence, you must note that:

1. If your flesh does not respect your will, there is nothing that will respect your life. In other words, if you cannot respect yourself, your choice and your decision, then, there is nothing on earth that will respect you.

 

2. It is the strength of your will that undergirds the strength of your destiny. Those who have strong destiny have strong decision power. People who succeed with God and ultimately succeed in life have strength of will, decision and choice. Anyone who is controlled by the flesh is under the spell of failure. When your flesh rules your life, your future is not guaranteed. When your flesh rules your life, it ruins your life. 

 

Beloved, make up your mind to be disciplined and as you do so, I see your life experiencing a drastic change, in Jesus’ Name. 

 

Remember this: When your flesh rules your life, your future is not guaranteed.

1.Search your life and note the areas where you are weak in the flesh.

2.Make up your mind to overcome them by using the Word of God and prayers.

DESTINY DOOR CLOSER

SCRIPTURE: The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. James 5:16.

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Nothing closes the door to breakthroughs in life like sin.

 

Today, many people pray without result because they do not pray according to Divine Guidelines

 

What kind of prayer attracts answers and results from heaven?

 

It is the prayer offered with a pure heart. According to our anchor scripture, it is the prayer of a righteous man that availeth much.  A clear conscience is the assurance of answered prayer.

 

Sin hinders access to God. Just as you cannot request anything from someone whose telephone line you cannot access, you cannot request anything from God when you cannot access Him. Nothing closes the door to breakthroughs of life like sin.  Anything that defiles your conscience denies you access to receiving from Heaven.

 

Ask God to reveal to you whatever is in your life that is hindering you from having access to Him.

 

Sin closes doors. Nothing closes the door to every breakthrough of life like sin. After Adam and Eve sinned, they were chased out of the Garden of Eden and the cherubim closed the door (Genesis 3:24). 

 

The moment they sinned against God, their access to the Garden was blocked and denied; they were driven from the Presence of the Lord. 

 

Receive the grace to live a sin-free life in Jesus’ Name.

 

Remember this: Nothing closes the door to breakthroughs in life like sin.

1.Search your life and repent from any sin that can hinder your access to God’s Presence.

2.Make up your mind to live a sin-free life.

PRAYING IN THE WILL OF GOD

SCRIPTURE: And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. - 1 John 5:14-15

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Praying His Will is the secret of winning in prayer

 

Prayer is the connecting link between a man and His Maker. Prayer establishes God’s Presence around a man’s life and the Presence of God is needed to fulfil destiny. Therefore, refusing to pray is to be empty of Divine Presence.

 

Effective prayer registers an impact on three realms: the realm of God, the devil and the one who prayed. Prayer changes people. The Bible said that as Jesus prayed, ‘...the fashion of his countenance was altered’ (Luke 9:29). 

 

When some people pray, God is not touched; neither is the devil nor the person who prayed.

 

What kind of prayer touches God, the devil and the person who prayed? It is praying in the will of God.

 

For prayer to receive an answer from God, it must be done according to the Will of God. The Word of God is the Will of God. The word ‘Testament’ means ‘Will’. ‘Old’ and ‘New’ Testament means the old and new Will of God respectively. Many Christians carry the Will of God in the form of the Bible but are dying of spiritual starvation every day.

 

Beloved, ensure that your prayer is word-based and you will receive speedy answers from God. Praying His Will is the secret of winning in prayer

 

Remember this: Praying His Will is the secret of winning in prayer.

THE SECRET OF LONGEVITY

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: True worship keeps people alive to fulfil their purpose on earth.

 

The Will of God for His children is to live a long and fulfilled life. The Bible recorded that when Moses was one hundred and twenty years old, his natural force was not abated (Deuteronomy 34:7). Therefore, it is not the Will of God for any sickness or work of diabolism to cut us short before our time.

 

One of the secrets of longevity is living a life of praise and worship. True praise and worship is the reason for long life and purposeful existence.

 

True worship keeps people alive to fulfil their purpose on earth. When you are a genuine worshipper, witches and wizards will keep getting frustrated because they can do nothing about you. When you are deep in worship and praise, you cannot be cut short by any devil. 

 

When God told Hezekiah through Isaiah that he was going to die, he initially began to complain that he was about to be cut short (Isaiah 38:1-2), but when he changed his complaining to praise (Isaiah 38:18), God added 15 more years to his life. The true worship of God prolongs a man’s life on earth. You shall live long, in Jesus’ Name.

 

Remember this: True worship keeps people alive to fulfil their purpose on earth.

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

1.Prolong your life by consciously praising and worshipping God daily.

2.Consciously refuse to be depressed. Make the choice for joy.

CHANGING YOUR LIFE THROUGH PERSISTENT PRAYER

SCRIPTURE: But he stayed behind, alone. Then a man came and wrestled with him until just before daybreak. Genesis 32:24 (GNT)
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Your name can open or close doors; it can bring attraction or rejection.
It can be confirmed that the objective of praying effectively is not the exertion of physical energy but seeing results from the prayer.
Jacob was a man whose life was changed by the power of persistent prayer. It is important to highlight few negative trends in his life that made him to pray persistently:
1. He was a victim of wrong identity, name and perception.
Whenever people saw him, what came to their mind was evil. Jacob means a trickster. A person’s name and identity determines their opportunity. Your name can open or close doors; it can bring attraction or rejection. If you have grown with a wrong identity, people could hate you before they see you but that is broken today, in the Name of Jesus Christ.
2. Jacob was a victim of isolation and desolation.
He was disconnected from his loved ones for more than 20 years until God prevailed in his life.
Beloved, like Jacob, you can alter every negative trend in your life by persistent prayer. I curse the root of every negative trend in your life and family in Jesus’ Name.
Remember this: Your name can open or close doors; it can bring attraction or rejection.

1. Have a constant prayer schedule.
2. Persist in prayer until your destiny is changed.

THE TRAGEDY OF INGRATITUDE

SCRIPTURE: And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine? There are not found that returned to give glory to God, save this stranger. And he said unto him, Arise, go thy way: thy faith hath made thee whole. Luke 17:17-19.

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: If you cannot notice what God has done for you, you will never see what He wants to do for you.

 

Many people pray without securing Divine attention. And when prayer does not secure Divine attention, it will not be answered. Now, what is that prayer that must secure Divine attention?

 

The prayer that must secure the attention of God must be ‘clothed’ with thanksgiving. How you handled the last miracle God gave you by returning praise to Him determines whether or not you will experience the next one.

 

Today, there are many grumblers but few thanksgivers. Ingratitude makes a man remember God only in the times of adversities but forget Him in prosperity.

 

Why must we avoid the tragedy of ingratitude?

Ingratitude blinds our eyes to God’s work in our lives: Jesus healed ten lepers but only one of them returned to appreciate God for the healing; the remaining nine were ungrateful servants. This shows us the proportion of the grateful to the ungrateful in the Church today – out of every ten persons that God does something for in the Church, only one normally returns to give glory to God.

 

Ingratitude made the nine lepers not to see what God did for them. And if you cannot notice what God has done for you, you will never see what He wants to do for you.

 

Remember this: If you cannot notice what God has done for you, you will never see what He wants to do for you.

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

1.Always return the praise to God for everything He does for you like that grateful leper.

2.Employ all the avenues of worship that you know to praise and honour God.

LIVING A LIFE OF ACCOUNTABILITY

SCRIPTURE: Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. Ecclesiastes 12:7

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Earthly actions have eternal consequences.

 

It has been confirmed that life is a trust. God gave us life as a trust and it is important to know that one day, we shall account for the life He has given us (Romans 14:10).

 

Everyone will give account of his life on earth; the President of your nation will one day stand before Jehovah to account for how he governed the country. State governors and every single one of us will also give account of our lives. Every minister of the gospel will account for what they preach; they will account for things they said or the things they failed to say.

 

One day, I will stand and give an account of the way in which I am overseeing the ministry He gave me.

 

Beloved, earthly actions have eternal consequences. Our actions might be earthly but the consequences are eternal. Consciousness of eternal consequence imparts cautiousness to earthly conducts. When a person is conscious that there is life in the afterlife and that he/she will meet the Creator after death, then there will be cautiousness in earthly conduct.

 

Remember this: Earthly actions have eternal consequences.

 

ASSIGNMENTS:

1.Assess your life to find out the areas you are not measuring up to God’s expectation for your life.

2.Make your ways right with God and maximise your life for God’s use.

LIVING A LIFE OF IMPACT

SCRIPTURE: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13.

 

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Until we live to give, we are not alive at all.

 

Our LORD Jesus Christ is a perfect example of a life of impact. He lived a ministerial life for only three and a half years but the Bible recorded that no book on earth can record the exploits of His life (John 21:25); He lived beyond His time. He made an indelible impact that will span all eternity.

 

In the same way, we can live beyond our time by exploits as Christians since the same Jesus Christ lives in us. There are people who have died and can never be forgotten. Some of them include Mother Theresa of Calcutta, India, Martin Luther King Jr., George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, William Wilberforce (who moved the motion for the abolition of slave trade in the British Parliament) and several others. These people are generational impacters.

 

The irony of life is that there are people who have died and cannot be forgotten but there are people who are alive and cannot be remembered. What is the difference between these two groups of people?

 

Impact!

 

Impact is the joy of giving that constitutes the joy of living. Until we live to give, we are not alive at all.

 

Beloved, make up your mind to impact your world.

 

Remember this: Until we live to give, we are not alive at all.

I was watching one of the satellite television channels recently and I saw a so called 'Minister of God' advertising the sale of his miracle water, miracle anointing oil and Miracle handkerchiefs with all they can do because he had prayed on them.

As I thought on the matter I kept wondering how come we have degenerated to this level of shamelessness in our quest for filthy lucre?

How come we can descend to any level of spiritual manipulation just to satisfy a greed?

How come what cost God His only begotten Son and cost Jesus His precious life has become a platform for gain?

How come we unashamedly make merchandise of what was a sacrifice?

How come we take advantage of people's problems and ignorance as a means of self profiteering?

How come we have sold our conscience to the devil while still doing the work of God?

How come the Blood that was shared free in pain and agony has become a commodity for brisk business?

How come we can go to any length to give the people miracles but don't really care if they have a relationship with the miracle worker?

How come our conscience have been so seared to careless of what people think?

Oh God have mercy upon Your church!
Wilt Thou not revive us oh Lord? In wrath Lord remember mercy.

THE SEED OF LIFE

   
SCRIPTURE: Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. John 12:24

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The real worth of any life is defined by the number of human beings who draw value from that life.

From our anchor scripture, Jesus Christ explains that life is a seed that must be sown for the benefit of people. And this benefit profits both humanity and Divinity.

What is the aim of the seed?
The seed, when grown produces fruit that people derive nourishment from. This means that the seed feeds.

Beloved, you are a seed that is supposed to be sown for the feeding of many people. The real worth of any life is defined by the number of human beings who draw value from that life. You need to ask yourself questions like, ‘How many lives have been upgraded and enhanced in value because I exist? How many people would have been dead if they had not encountered me? How many people are excited because of my existence?’

The fact is, a time will come when people will forget the size of the house we lived in or the type of car we drove.

But there is something they can never forget, and that is the number of lives we have touched and the number of souls we have impacted both for time and eternity. Do not waste your life on the mundane things of this life; exist as a seed.

Remember this: The real worth of any life is defined by the number of human beings who draw value from that life.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1.Affect a life today by your personal contribution to humanity.
2.Positively contribute to the growth of the Body of Christ (the Church). Bring someone to the Lord.

‘Spiritual success’ is what really matters, says Donald Trump

“Spiritual success” is a more accurate measure for the United States than wealth, according to likely billionaire President Donald Trump in remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington yesterday.

“America is a nation of believers,” Trump said. “In towns across the land, we see what we so easily forget: The quality of our lives is not defined by our material success but by our spiritual success. I speak that as someone who has had great material success and who knows many people who have had great material success … Some of them are very miserable, miserable people.”

Compared to people who have money but no happiness, the people who have no money but happiness “are the successful people, let me tell you,” Trump said at the 65th annual breakfast, attended by 3,000 politicians, religious leaders and dignitaries, including King Abdullah of Jordan.

 The president also promised to 'destroy' the Johnson Amendment, which prohibits charities and churches from political campaigning

Trump spoke about having gone to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware the previous day for the return of the remains of William “Ryan” Owens, a Navy SEAL killed in a firefight with al-Qaida in Yemen. “Greater love has no man than that a man lay down his life for his friends,” the president said. “We will never forget the men and women who wear the uniform, believe me.”

THE IMPACT OF PRAYING WITHOUT CEASING

SCRIPTURE: Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Praying without ceasing is the secret of winning without ceasing.

From our anchor scripture, we have been admonished by Word of God to pray always. It is continued and persistent prayer that produces result (James 5:16, AMP).
I would like us to consider two products of praying persistently:

1) Praying without ceasing is the secret of winning without ceasing.
This means that to stop praying is to start losing. Samson died as a casualty because he lived a life without prayer. Praying without ceasing, therefore, is the secret of winning without ceasing.

2) Your life’s outcome today is a product of your prayer of yesterday and your life’s outcome tomorrow is being determined by your prayers today.
Many years ago, as I was praying, the Lord ministered to me and said, “The prayer you are praying now is an investment for the next fifteen to twenty or more years. You are making investments into a time that has not yet come.” That, to me, explains why there are times I see great things happen in my life with very minimal current effort on my part.

If you do not want your today to be repeated tomorrow, then, you must change your prayer level today.

Remember this: Praying without ceasing is the secret of winning without ceasing.

ASSIGNMENTS:
1.Make up your mind to pray persistently.
2.Ask God for His Help at the place of prayer.

PRAYER: O Lord, I receive the grace to pray consistently. Help me Lord to pray according to Your Will, in Jesus’ Name.
