YOUR CHARACTER AND YOUR FUTURE
SCRIPTURE: Reuben,
thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the
excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: Unstable as water, thou
shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father’s bed; then defiledst
thou it: he went up to my couch. – Genesis
49:3-4
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A man without character cannot be
outstanding in life.
In Genesis 35:22, the Scripture tells the story of Reuben, the first son of
Jacob who defiled his father’s bed by having an immoral relationship with his
father’s concubine. This action of Reuben brought him under an irrecoverable
curse by his father. Consequently, though Reuben was the firstborn son, he lost
his birthright as a result of character bankruptcy. A life without
positive character is a life that is cursed. One of the greatest challenges
that can happen to anybody is to exist without character. To exist without
character is to exist naturally under the curse. When character is lost,
dignity is lost. This implies that a man without character cannot be
outstanding in life. He loses his dignity on earth and loses respect in
eternity. There are people today with great potentials without character
and so, they end in frustration. Beloved, your character is the greatest
determinant of your destiny. Who you are determines what you can become. To
matter, you need manners. So, watch your character so as to attain your highest
height in life.
Remember this: A man without character cannot be outstanding
in life.
